Dr. Sudipta Lahiri is the Director of Storage and Grid Intelligence (SAGE) for Energy Systems at DNV. Dr. Lahiri brings over twelve (12) years of global experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Microgrids. Dr. Lahiri works across multi-disciplinary segments to develop strategic knowledge assets and drive new business growth in Energy Storage and Hybrid Systems.
Dr. Lahiri has successfully led or executed over fifty projects in BESS and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) planning, evaluation and integration; spanning North America, India, the Caribbean, the UK and South America. He is the architect of DNV’s BESS and microgrid techno-economic analysis and market dispatch tools. His pioneering work had significant impact on the evolution of the US Battery industry by establishing methodologies for storage evaluation in US regulatory proceedings such as California’s AB 2514, and PJM’s response to FERC Order 755.
Dr. Lahiri has been a senior researcher in federal and state-level emerging technology programs funded by DoE ARPA-E, NYSERDA and CEC. He has presented on battery systems and microgrids in over 30 industry and technical conferences since 2016. Sudipta has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University, Philadelphia. His early research has been applied to control systems of all-electric naval vessels.
