Presentation: Turning SOC accuracy into 5%+ more trading revenue in ERCOT

Time: 12:05 PM - 12:20 PM
Date: 24 March 2026

Theatre: Stream 1

Synopsis

In ERCOT, where prices can spike thousands of dollars per MWh and dispatch windows recalculate every five minutes, the cost of SOC misalignment compounds fast. Industry modelling indicates that BESS assets can miss more than $1,000,000 per GWh annually due to SOC misalignment. This session presents findings from ACCURE’s work on a utility-scale battery asset in ERCOT, showing how inaccurate SOC readings directly result in lost revenue opportunities and what it takes to fix it without spending on new hardware or additional capacity.

Using a validated example from a 75 MW BESS operating in ERCOT, we will show how this problem developed, where it showed up in the dispatch data, and what happened after ACCURE’s SOC Correction was implemented through the existing EMS. The results, validated in live market conditions during one of ERCOT’s sharpest storage revenue downturns, exceeded $110,000 in validated annual revenue uplift, equivalent to more than 5% additional trading revenue.

Attendees will leave with a clear view of:

  • How SOC misalignment develops in LFP systems and why ERCOT amplifies its revenue impact.
  • What dispatch data revealed and how inaccurate SOC readings translated directly into missed revenue windows.
  • How SOC Correction was implemented through the existing EMS with no hardware changes and no operational disruption.
  • Validated financial results from a live ERCOT asset and how the same issue plays out across other markets.
