William Lauwers

Head of Technology, Battery Energy Storage Systems Enertis Applus+

Will is an experienced energy storage professional, with over 10 years’ experience in the Battery Energy Storage industry. As Enertis’ Head of Technology, Battery Energy Storage, he supports client Independent Engineering and consulting analytics needs.

Prior to joining Enertis, he served as the Team Lead of Energy Storage Independent Engineering for DNV. In that role, he directly PM’d several GW of BESS projects, including BESS paired with PV, microgrids, BESS paired with natural gas peaker plants, and standalone storage systems. In addition to his direct project management, he trained a team of energy storage IE experts and sponsored BESS IE projects, including some of the largest BESS projects deployed across the United States and Canada.  He also served as a subject matter expert in support of lenders technical advisory diligence on investments in battery gigafactories, battery manufacturing production lines, and supply chain production investments.

Prior to his time with DNV, he served as the Director of Emerging Technology with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, where he was responsible for BESS in the SMART Program, development of the Clean Peak Standard, administration of storage and energy resilience grants, and administration of Electric Vehicle incentives.  Prior to DOER, he co-founded the UDRI Energy Experience Center and supported advanced energy technology demonstrations, including remote microgrids, for military applications.  Mr. Lauwers holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton.
