Marcela is a Stakeholder Engagement Specialist leading engagement efforts for Regional Direct Air Capture Hubs and Long Duration Energy Storage in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED). She comes to OCED from Data for Progress, a progressive think-tank and polling firm, where she served as Political Director and spearheaded efforts to incorporate public opinion analysis into policy development. In this role, she helped to organize focus groups and community workshops across the country to understand community and public perception of Direct Air Capture and carbon removal technologies more broadly. She specializes in communicating around climate innovation topics with a wide range of audiences including policymakers and impacted communities. She has also worked as a climate policy analyst for The Century Foundation where she led policy research related to climate justice and public housing. Marcela began her career interning with the NAACP’s Environmental and Climate Justice Program and the Sunrise Movement.
